Hospice Care Services provide non-medical support for clients receiving hospice care and for family members who are involved in their day-to-day care. This service may be relevant when a loved one is receiving hospice support at home or in a facility and family caregivers need assistance with personal care, companionship, household tasks, or periods of respite. In Wayne County and throughout the service area, caregivers provide support that complements the clinical care delivered by the hospice agency, nurses, physicians, and other medical professionals.
How It Works
Hospice support may include the following non-medical services:
Companionship, reassurance, and a comforting bedside presence
Respite support while family caregivers rest, run errands, or attend to personal needs
Personal care assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting
Incontinence assistance
Meal preparation and feeding assistance
Hydration reminders as appropriate
Light housekeeping, laundry, and linen changes
Maintaining a clean and comfortable environment
Medication reminders as directed by the family or hospice care plan
Observation and communication of non-medical changes or concerns to family members or the hospice team
Daytime, evening, overnight, or extended-care support when available
What to Expect
The caregiver provides non-medical assistance and companionship while the hospice agency and other licensed professionals remain responsible for clinical care. Support may take place in the client’s home or facility and can include personal care, respite for family caregivers, household assistance, and a bedside presence. Caregivers do not administer medications, make medical decisions, provide nursing care, or perform clinical treatments; concerns requiring clinical attention are communicated to the appropriate hospice professionals.
